Blind Burrs | The Pinnacle of Grinding Design

Abstract

In 2025, LeBrew launched its first blind-hole burr — the Hyper Burrs 98mm Filter Blind. Made from DC53 tool steel with precision grinding technology and coated with a high-aluminum titanium conductive layer, this burr delivers exceptional particle size distribution, earning wide acclaim from coffee enthusiasts.

1. What Are Blind Burrs?

Blind burrs are burrs without screw holes on the cutting surface. Instead of being fastened by visible screws, they are secured using alignment pins and magnets, or screws from the back or side of the burr carrier.

Compared to traditional burrs with front-facing screw holes, the LeBrew HyperBurrs 98mm Filter Blind increases the effective grinding area by 4.5%, as there are no holes interrupting the cutting surface. As a result, it also retains less coffee residue, making it cleaner and more efficient.

2. Mounting Methods for Blind Burrs

Blind burrs are mounted differently from conventional designs, and can be categorized into three types: Magnetically, Pull Back, and Secure From The Side.

Magnetically Blind Burrs use magnets embedded in the carrier to restrict vertical movement, while alignment pins control horizontal positioning. Pull Back Blind Burrs are fastened from the back using screws that align with threaded holes behind the burr. This ensures both vertical and horizontal stability. From The Side Burrs use set screws on the side of the carrier or grinder body to press against the outer edge of the burr, holding it in place from multiple directions.

*Currently, LeBrew HyperBurrs Blind Series is available in the Magnetically version only. Additional Pull Back version will be released based on market demand.

3. Advantages of Blind Burrs

Traditional burrs with front-facing screw holes naturally form three “high collision points,” which tend to crush rather than cut the coffee beans. This disrupts the intended grind profile and limits the burr's full potential.

Blind burrs eliminate these interference zones, allowing the cutting surface to function more cleanly and precisely — resulting in a more refined and consistent particle distribution.
